I'm convinced our devices are building psychological profiles of us that go way beyond "targeted ads"
I know this gets brought up from time to time, but something happened recently that I can't shake. I was having a private, in-person conversation with a friend — no phones out, not near a smart speaker — about a very niche medical topic that I have NEVER searched for. Not once. Not even close to it. Within two days, I started getting content about that exact topic in my feeds. Not ads. *Content.* Articles, suggested videos, even a push notification from a news app. But here's the thing that real
Has this entire situation made you more weary of people?
I’m looking to have a discussion on what people think about this. My soul is very sad when I think about how many people are pedophiles and just how many people would act on it if they had the chance. Sex with a minor. It’s really bleak. I know not everyone is a pedophile but if you spend enough time online like me, you really start to think they are. How many people do you pass in a day, at the store or whatever, who are just like them. If nobody was watching, they would. I WOULD RATHER BE CAUG

Something on the internet is altering historical records and deleting salient information
I first noticed this anomaly when I was about to take the CASPer for my nursing school entrance, this was back in 2018, and I remember listening to “Knock You Down” by Keri Hilson and Kanye West, and the lyrics were, “Can you make it past your Caspers and we will fly off into NASA.” And I remember looking it up, and Caspers turn out to be some acronym for an astronauts exam that astronauts take before going to space. So that totally make sense for the lyrics, because of the personal relevance,
they kept feeding us convenience until surveillance felt normal
It’s not just social media or ads anymore. It’s keyboards, recommendation systems, app analytics, telemetry, watch history, location history, search behavior, “product improvement,” all stacked on top of each other until constant collection starts feeling normal. What gets me is how minor each excuse sounds on its own, while the total picture is anything but minor. It feels like companies started hoarding data like it unlocks bonus content, and everyone just got slowly trained to accept it bec
