Family members of mass shooters often say in retrospect that they "never saw it coming." That's not the situation here. Cole Allen's sister Avriana sat down with federal investigators in Rockville, Maryland and described what she'd been hearing for months.

The Rhetoric

According to interviews summarized by CBS News, NewsNation, and WJLA, Avriana told investigators her brother "made radical statements" and that his "rhetoric constantly referenced a plan to do something to fix the issues with today's world." She also told them he had purchased two handguns and a shotgun from CAP Tactical Firearms and was storing them at their parents' Torrance home — without their knowledge.

What She Did

Once the manifesto landed and the family understood what "something" meant, Avriana reportedly contacted federal authorities directly. The interview took place at her Rockville address. She is reportedly cooperating fully.

The Larger Pattern

Multiple family members had access to enough information to predict the trajectory. None alerted authorities before the shooting because the rhetoric, in isolation, was not actionable. The post-attack interview record shows a textbook case of the threshold problem: dangerous statements only become reportable threats after the threat materializes.
